Your Back-to-School Makeup Routine

Doing your makeup is always fun, but let’s be honest, it takes some time.  During the school year those extra minutes of sleep are wonderful, but they always seem to interrupt your beauty routine.  For those days when you want to sleep in, or when you are looking for something that is hassle free, here is a quick makeup routine for back to school.

Step 1- Smashbox Photo Finish Primer

Primer is an essential product to a school makeup routine because it boosts your makeups longevity.  Smashbox is defiantly on the the higher end side of things when it comes to makeup brands, however this primer is worth it.  Not only does it increase the longevity of your makeup, it also leaves your makeup appear less shiny from the oils on your skin.

Primer is most easily applied with your fingers, focusing on the the parts of your face that get the most oily.

Step 2- Foundation

Foundation choices are all about preference.  Choose the foundation that is best for your skin type and offers the amount of coverage you are most comfortable with.  Also consider your skin type when deciding between a mattifying or hydrating finish.

Foundation can be applied with your hands, brushes, or a beauty sponge.  Start with a small amount, you can ALWAYS add more.

Step 3- Maybelline Fit Me Concealer

Concealer is an optional step or can be used instead of foundation.  Concealer is a great way to get some added coverage over problem areas or dark under eyes.  Maybelline Fit Me Concealer is a great concealer with a hydrating formula and a large variety of shades, and an added bonus is it's drugstore priced.

Concealer is similar to foundation, however use a lighter hand when applying product underneath your eyes.  Your under eye area is very delicate compared to the rest of your face.

Step 4- Mac Mineralized Skin Finish (Powder)

Powder is essential for keeping your face shine-free and preventing your makeup from creasing. Mac’s Mineralized Skin Finish is lightweight, but offers a nice natural finish.

Powder is most easily applied with a fluffy brush, and light hand.

Step 5- Nars Blush and NYX Matte Bronzer

Once again this is another optional step, but it adds color and life to your makeup.  Nars blushes are extremely pigmented and totally live up to the hype.  On the cheaper side, my favorite bronzer is from NYX and it can give you that sun kissed look without getting damage from the harmful rays.

Both of these products are best applied with brushes, at least in my opinion.  Apply your blush to the apples of your cheeks, and bronzer to your cheekbones and jawline.

Step 6- Anastasia Beverly Hills (Brows)

Brows are completely optional!  If you are wanting to go for it, Anastasia is the best brand for brows; however, if you are looking for a cheaper alternative NYX and Maybelline have other affordable products.

Step 7- Eyeshadow

Eyeshadow comes in so many colors!  There are amazing palettes from high end brands like Too Faced and Urban Decay, but they are definitely on the pricy side.  If you're looking for a palette with a lot of options, good quality, and one that won't break the bank, I would definitely recommend Morphe.  Morphe is a middle price range brand that offers palettes that are extremely diverse.

You can apply your eyeshadow however you want.  Look for inspiration from magazines, Pinterest, and beauty tutorials on YouTube.  If you are looking for something quick and easy stick to the basics.

Start with a small fluffy blending brush and a matte brown shadow.  Apply the shadow into the crease (hollow) of eyes until your desired pigmentation is reached.

Then apply a lighter shade (matte or shimmer) to your eyelid and blend the edges again with your blending brush.

Finally apply a shadow that is lighter than your skintone and apply on the inner corners of your eyes, and underneath your brows, as a highlight.

Step 8- Jordana Best Lash Extreme Volumizing Mascara

To me, mascara totally transforms your makeup from good to great.  You could skip all of this and just wear mascara, and still look put together.  As someone who has a weakness for Sephora, and a love for good looking eyelashes, I’ve tried everything.  It took awhile, but I finally found my holy grail mascara and it's only $6!
