Zodiac Reading List
Born between January 20 and February 18 Aquarius values friendship and is not afraid to fight for the right cause. Their book of the month shall be Six of Crows, written by Leigh Bardugo- a fast-paced, insane story of six unpredictable individuals that form an unlikely alliance to do the unimaginable- perform the biggest heist known in history. Beautifully written, read-all-in-one-sitting kind of a book that will take you to the world of lies, crime and thieves’ honor. If it was a movie, it’d be a wild blockbuster that’d give productions like Now You See Me a run for money.
For melancholic, music and romance loving Pisces born between February 19 and March 20, we’ve got a little treat- a mix between The Bachelor, Top Model and Divergent. The Selection, written by Kiera Cass, tells the story of a young girl named America living in a dystopian society. People are given numbers from One to Eight, that dictate what they can do for a living and who they may fall in love with. A very important tradition is choosing a wife for a young, future king through a reality show-like contest. Any girl can be chosen and all’s fair in love and war.
Aries, born between March 21 and April 19 is confident, courageous and determined- just like the characters of our next book. The Raven Boys, written by Maggie Stiefvater, tells a story of four boys from a private school and a girl, whose physic family is not the most extraordinary thing about her. Bonds stronger than life and death are formed through friendship, determination and unwavering belief that there’s more to this world that we can see.
For reliable, patient, hating sudden changes Taurus, born between April 20 and May 20, I have a title worth reading not only during the Christmas time. Dash and Lily’s Book Of Dares, by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan, shows us two souls connecting in an unusual way- through a red Moleskin down the snowy streets of New York. The story makes you believe in small miracles and how to look for them in everyday life.
Gentle, affectionate, curious – these traits perfectly describe Gemini born between May 21 and June 20. „” For these individuals, I would recommend a challenging historical novel by Ellis Avery- The Last Nude. The story follows the life of a Polish art déco painter- Tamara Łępicka, through her female lover’s eyes. Love, lust and confusion fill the pages of this wonderful piece, set between World Wars on Parisian streets in glamorous roaring 20s.
For highly imaginative and often suspicious Cancer born between June 21 and July 22 I can only recommend one book- Young Sherlock Holmes – Death Cloud by Andrew Lane. While the book was not written by sir Arthur Conan Doyle, it was in fact officially approved by his descendants as a legit part of Sherlock’s adventures. And for good reason. It thoroughly analyzes young Holmes’ mind and what made him the greatest detective in the history of literature (I’m sorry, Mr. Poirot).
Leo, born between July 23 and August 22,is often called creative, a natural born leaders, sometimes arrogant – all the things that can be found inside a book called The Secret History by Donna Tartt. Set on a brick-walled campus covered in vines, it follows a blood-stained story of a six classics students. Murder, alcohol and decadence take over as you get hooked into this incredible, beautifully written adventure.
Born between August 21 and September 22 Virgo is loyal, shy and hates rudeness – just like the main character of our next book written by Jenna Han - To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before. Lara Jean has a special way of dealing with heartbreaks- she writes good-bye letters to the boys that let her down, but never sends them. What happens when the letters find their way to the addresses? A very funny and subtle love story that makes a great anti-stress, light read.
Diplomatic, romantic, hating injustice Libra is born between September 23 and October. Now, I won’t lie- I put this title here because it is my favorite. As in, if-I-had-to-choose-which-book-I-would-like-to-be-buried-with favorite. The Song Of Achilles, by Madeline Miller, retells the legendary Greek myth about the mighty Achilles, from the perspective of the love of his life- Patroclus. Romeo and Juliet, move over and don’t waste any more of our precious time with your pathetic puppy love, because this, my friends, is a love story for the ages. Get your tissues ready.
Scorpio, born between October 23 and November 21, can be expressive, passionate and even jealous – basically what every girl in love is at one point or another. Bad girls with perfect faces, by Lynn Weingarten, is all that and more. It’s a story of how far you can go to protect someone you love, even if it makes you a monster. Bits of mystery, thriller and romance can be found in this coming-of-age novel, making it very hard to put down before it’s finished.
When you think about, born between November 22 and December 21, Sagittarius, you think: freedom, love for traveling, impatience. For that free spirit, I would love to recommend a very gentle and lovely YA novel called Aristotle and Dante Discover The Secrets Of The Universe, by Benjamin Alire Sáenz. The two main characters are as unique as their names and we get to accompany them on the wild ride that is puberty.
Last but by no means least, Capricorn, born between December 22 and January 19 Responsible, values family and tradition but can be unforgiving – every single trait that characterizes the main character of a book written by Jay Kristoff - Nevernight. Set in a fantasy world with a heavy Venetian vibe, it takes us on a bloody, vengeful adventure to an academy for spiritual assassins. Beauty mixes with gore, love with lust and the sweetest promises with the most bitter swears. A delicious read, 10/10 would recommend.
