Best American Weekend Getaways
Sarasota might be one of the most underrated areas in the ever-touristy state of Florida. The area is beautiful with plenty of white sand beaches, and is home to the Ringling Museum of Art, a former winter home to the Ringling Bros. Circus that houses an extensive collection of European art. Nearby Anna Maria Island is a perfect area to stay due to its numerous inns and rentals, as well as close access to the beach.
Philadelphia is a vibrant mix of past and present and well worth the trip. Between historical and cultural sites such as the Liberty Bell, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Independence Hall, and the Museum of the American Revolution and more modern sites such as the various sports complexes, Reading Terminal Market, and the Philadelphia Zoo, the city truly has something for everyone.
Chitown is a beautiful city and perfect for a weekend away. Summer is a great time to enjoy the short window for temperate weather in the city, whether by catching a Cubs or White Sox game, hopping in Lake Michigan, or going on a morning jog or bike ride along the lake. This is another destination with a wide variety of attractions, including world class shopping on the Magnificent Mile, amazing food (the original UNO’s, Ghirardelli's, Eataly, the list goes on), plenty of museums and learning centers (the Adler Planetarium, Field Museum of Natural History, Art Institute of Chicago, etc.), and great ways to view the entire surrounding area (John Hancock Tower and Willis Tower).
Portland is an absolutely stunning area during the summer and a great destination for a lowkey vacation. The city is home to great food, whether serving up seafood in the Old Port or looking for something sweet (highly recommend the Holy Donut). The area has great weather during the summer and is home to various beaches perfect for spending the day at or walking along. There’s also easy access to inland Maine, which is full of beautiful lakes and plenty of quaint, small towns to spend time in.
Los Angeles, California//
L.A. is a top destination for so many reasons. The city is close to the ever-popular beaches in Malibu and Santa Barbara for beach-goers, the Hollywood Hills for hikers, and Disneyland for fun-seekers. For cultural attractions, the area is home to several museums and institutes, including the La Brea Tar Pits and Museum, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Getty Center, and Griffith Observatory. Of course, for those interested in the film industry, there are always shows taping in nearby Burbanks, the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and the Grammy Museum to check out.
